Trigger Points

TRIGGER POINTS AND THEIR RELEASE

A trigger point is a hard knot or very uncomfortable area in a muscle that causes pain with movement or just at rest. Trigger points develop whenever a muscle is strained or injured. Often the trigger point can be palpitated and are sensitive to touch. An area of pain may have more than one trigger point. Trigger points can be located anywhere in the body.

To treat trigger points one can use trigger point release techniques that are manual manipulation of the muscle until there is a release of the spasm. Or a trigger point can be needled to release the spasm. It may take a couple of attempts to release a very chronic trigger point.
